Communication

The College is committed to regular and open communications with families to facilitate an effective partnership focused on their child’s well-being and learning. The sections below address the various means by which the College communicates with members of its community.

Communication with Teachers

It is important that parents contact the appropriate member of staff in relation to any questions or matters they wish to discuss. A list of key people to contact can be found in Staff Contact Details.

Parents can also communicate with a teacher by:
• an email using the teachers’ College email address;
• a letter in a sealed envelope;
• an appointment (arrange an interview via email (all teachers), or leave a message at Reception for the teacher to return your call to arrange a time;
• a telephone conversation (a message can be left with the Reception for the teacher to return your call, however teachers are unlikely to be available when you call and a reply call cannot be guaranteed on the same day).

Staff should only be contacted through the College and not on their personal mobile phones, or via social networking sites. We also ask that parents respect the personal time of College staff and refrain from approaching them about school matters at social or other occasions outside of the College.

Website

The College website is an integral part of our communication with our community. It is recommended that families become familiar with the website and access it for current and general information about the College.

NWCC Parent App

Our parent app for Android and Apple devices is an integral part of College communication. It is essential that all parents have access to this app and access it regularly for updates in Newsfeed, granting permissions in To Do, viewing student timetables, tasks, absences and booking SPM’s. Through the App you also have direct access to information regarding College sporting teams, Seed Academy, contacts, our newsletter ‘Equip’ and other important links previously found on our website.

Equip, Our Newsletter

It is essential that at least one parent from each family read Equip, our newsletter that comes out twice a term. Important communications to our community are channeled through Equip, which contains educational articles, notifications of upcoming events, and regular information.

Early Learning Centre

The Early Learning Centre also use the Storypark application as the main method of communication and updates to parents.

Primary Years

Each Primary Stage issues a fortnightly communication note online. The latest of these are always available for viewing on our website. A link is provided each fortnight via the links icon in the College App.

Secondary Years

All Secondary students are issued with a paper diary. Students are encouraged to use the diary for each lesson.

Email

From time to time letters, notifications and other communications will be sent to the nominated email address for each family. For this reason it is essential that the College has a current email address for all families and that parents check their email address regularly. If this email address changes during the course of the year parents must ensure it is changed on Edumate.

SMS

From time to time notifications and reminders will be sent to each family’s nominated mobile phone via SMS. For this reason it is essential that parents check their mobile phone regularly.

Edumate Approvals

The process of parent approval for attendance at an excursion and for acknowledgement of receipt of important notifications involves the use of Edumate. Parents are asked to log in to Edumate in a timely manner to complete this process. Please make any such requests a priority as cooperation is this regard is essential for the smooth planning of College events. See also the Edumate and Camps & Excursions pages.

Canvas

The College is committed to the use of technology on a day-to-day basis to assist teachers in the facilitation of a rich learning environment for their students. The College’s on-line learning portal, Canvas is a powerful tool that enables students to access a wide range of school resources and engage with their own courses both on campus and from home.

Through Canvas students can access and utilise:
• specific course/subject material (resources, assessment tasks, homework);
• online discussion forums that relate to their courses (managed by subject teachers);
• course work that they can complete and upload for teacher feedback and comment.

Technical Difficulties

Students having difficulty with College communications should contact their teacher (Primary) or their mentor (Secondary). Parents should contact the College office.
