Term 2, Week 10

Happy Holidays!
We pray that you and your families have a wonderful break over the next three weeks. The holidays are the perfect time to check on your child's uniform. Please ensure it fits correctly, is in good order and is clearly labelled with your child's name. Also please take the opportunity to stock up on any stationery items (i.e. pencils, glue sticks etc.) that may need replenishing ready for the new term.

Student Progress Meetings
Next term, in Week 2 we will be having our Semester 2 Student Progress Meetings (SPMs). Keep an eye out for communication sent regarding this and booking in a time to meet with your child's teacher.

Premier's Reading Challenge
The holidays are the perfect time for logging your child's books for the Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC). Details of your child's PRC login can be found with their Home Learning folder and further information about the challenge can be found on the NSW PRC website. Your child would have come home with a list of all the books they have borrowed from the library so you can look for the books on the PRC list and log them on the website. Students can also access PRC ebooks with the new EPlatform (includes PRC Audio and Ebooks - Links to an external site.). You can log in using your user name (first.last) and then the password - Library1.

Year 4 Learning
This past week has been a fantastic time of engagment and learning for each student. Year 4 has been busy publishing their own picture books to conclude their learning of 'Visual Literacy' in Writing. Then, Year 4 had the opportunity to read their picture books to Kindy which was a wonderful experience for all involved. It has also been great to conclude the term with some collaborative and engaging STEM immersion challenging tasks. Students took part in building the tallest 'Spaghetti Tower', the fastest design model for the 'Balloon Race' and the most buoyant design for 'Tin Foil Boat Challenge'.

Term 2, Week 9

Winter Uniform
It has been wonderful seeing students dressed in their full winter uniform over the last few weeks. Just a reminder that long sleeves or singlets shouldn't be seen under the College uniform. Short sleeves would be the preferred added warmth if required. On sports days students can wear their rust coloured jumper underneath their sports jacket. The sports jacket or the College Blazer should the outer most layer when arriving or leaving the College. Boys are reminded that ties are required from Year 3. If there is a concern with uniform, please email your classroom teacher to communicate so that a uniform warning is not given. More information on uniform can be found on the College Website.

Premier's Reading Challenge

It has been wonderful to see many of our students working towards achieving their Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) this year! For those students who have already completed the reading challenge, keep your eyes out for your name on our giant bookshelf which will be appearing shortly in the Quad! Details of your child's PRC login can be found with their Home Learning book and further information about the challenge can be found on the NSW PRC website. If you have any questions regarding the PRC, please contact your child's teacher.

Year 3 Maths Investigation
During the final weeks of term, Year 3 will participate in a maths investigation titled 'How do I measure up?' They will apply their knowledge of measurement, data and comparative language to draw interesting conclusions about their statistics. We're looking forward to using our mathematical understanding in this way!

Radical Recyclers Incursion
On Monday, students participated in a program called 'Radical Recyclers', which is an engaging and interactive theatre show that aims to teach students about the importance of recycling and how they can look after our environment. It would be great to continue discussions around sustainability and recycling at home.

Stage 2 Camp
Year 3 and 4 had a fantastic time at camp last fortnight. Students stretched themselves and persevered during a range of challenging activities. For more memories of camp please check out the College's Social Media pages or the College Website.

Year 4 Service Opportunity - Return and Earn
Look out for an email from your child's teacher about our Year 4 Service Opportunity. Year 4 will be collecting all 10c recyclable items during break times in an effort to raise money toward supporting the SES. We are looking for parents willing to take these collected items and process them through the Return and Earn community machines.

National Reconciliation Week 2022 - "Be Brave. Make Change".
To conclude the College's participation in National Reconciliation Week, a special Reconciliation Assembly was held at school. Students were privileged to hear from Mr Scott Darlow an Indigenous Australian of Christian faith, who spoke to them about the importance of reconciliation for all Australians and the part that we all play in this. It was wonderful to see our Stage 2 students so engaged and stretching their empathising skills as they considered the reasons behind the need for reconciliation between Australia's First Peoples and the broader community.
