Important Information

BPL Classroom Visit
Parents and carers are invited to visit Stage 2 classrooms on Thursday 24 June (Week 10) from 9:15am - 10:00am. Students are excited to share what they've been learning about the 16 learning dispositions! If you're planning to attend, please make sure you have let your child's teacher know. You will need to sign in at the College before heading up to classrooms.

Equipment for Learning
Half way through the year is a great time to check your child's pencil case to make sure they have all the equipment needed for learning every day. Throughout the year, items can become lost or fall into disrepair and need to be replaced. Items often missing include lead pencils, 30cm rulers, and headphones. The full equipment list is available under Letters, Notes and Forms on the Links section of the app, under the Stage 2 heading. Click here to see the 2021 Primary Equipment List.

Holiday Reading for Premier's Reading Challenge
Thirty Stage 2 students have already completed the Premier's Reading Challenge! The upcoming holidays are a perfect opportunity for others to log more books before the challenge closes on Friday 20 August. Login details have previously been sent home with students. Please contact your child's teacher if a reminder is needed. Full details of the challenge can be found here.

Term 2 Science
This term in Science, Stage 2 has been learning all about energy. We have explored the different types of energy, and noticed how energy can transform from one type to another or transfer from one object to another. We've acted as scientists, using our reasoning skills to investigate various claims about energy through hands on experiences and research. We've used mirrors to see around corners, proved that sunlight is made up of all the colours of the rainbow, tested the claim that heat can make things expand, and seen some of the amazing things that static electricity can do. Details of all these investigations are available on the Science Canvas pages for the term. Many students were keen to try them again at home!

Term 2, Week 7
Important Information

Term 2 English
During Weeks 5 to 10 this term, our Writing unit will be focusing on poetry. We are learning that poetry allows people to express their thoughts and feelings about something in a creative way. So far, students have been introduced to a range of poetic devices that poets use in order to write effective poems including rhyme, rhythm, similes, metaphors, personification, alliteration and onomatopoeia. During weeks 6 and 7 students will have the opportunity to read and appreciate a range of quality poems covering a variety of themes including classic Australian ballads such as Waltzing Matilda and the Man from Snowy River. During weeks 8-10 students will be writing poetry using a range of short forms such as free verse, haiku, cinquain and limerick. We will also publish our poetry and practice reciting poetry aloud.

BPL Building
Stage 2 students have continued learning more about the 16 learning habits in our BPL Builders unit. Each week students have the opportunity to explore two learning dispositions in preparation for our Project Learning unit in Term 3. Over the last fortnight we have strengthened our noticing, empathising, immersing and reasoning dispositions. It has been wonderful to see students dive deep into these dispositions and we can not wait to see them put them into practice when we tackle some project based learning. We are also planning to provide parents with an opportunity to experience some of the learning that has occurred in BPL Builders sessions at the end of the term so watch your inbox for more information.

Equipment for learning
A reminder that Stage 2 students are expected to bring all the equipment they need at school to be ready to learn each day. Throughout the year items can become lost or fall into disrepair and need to be replaced. Items often missing include lead pencils, 30cm rulers, and headphones. The full equipment list is available under Letters, Notes and Forms on the Links section of the app, under the Stage 2 heading. Click here to see the 2021 Primary Equipment List.

Home Learning
Home learning is compulsory for Stage 2 students and is due each Thursday morning. Weekly tasks include Mathletics, times tables practice, reading at home, a reading comprehension task to complete and a challenge task from another Key Learning Area. From Week 5, Year 4 now have an additional Geography research task each week culminating in the creation of a Google Earth Tour of Africa or South America in Week 10. You can support your child at home by helping them to organise a quiet space and time to complete their Home Learning, with adult supervision when research on the internet is required. A system for ensuring their Home Learning book is placed in their school bag on Thursday morning may also support some students to develop their independence and establish a helpful routine.

Term 2, Week 5

Important Information

Winter Uniform
The College Winter uniform has begun!

Effective Monday, 10 May, students are expected to wear full Winter uniform as follows:
For all students, the College blazer must be the outer most layer of uniform worn and must be worn over the formal uniform when arriving and departing from the College each day. For girls, the College charcoal grey stockings must be worn in lieu of the white College socks with College trim. Girls may choose to wear the College long pants and blouse as an alternative to their dress.
For boys, the College long pants must be worn in lieu of shorts. Boys in Stage 2 must also wear their College tie, with their shirt tucked in.

Sport uniform should be worn on Thursday and Fridays. A reminder that the outer layer of warmth on Sport days is the sport jacket, with the College jumper to be worn underneath if needed. Students may wear a plain white short-sleeved undershirt for extra warmth; however, please ensure that the sleeves cannot be seen under the College shirt, sports shirt or dress. For any further information or clarification, please speak to your child's classroom teacher.

BPL Builders
In preparation for using Project Based Learning for History in Term 3, Stage 2 students have begun a unit called BPL Builders. The purpose of this time is to revisit and consolidate our understanding of BPL dispositions and grow our ability to use them in our learning and lives. So far we have stretched our persevering, communicating, collaborating, questioning, focusing and emulating. It has been so refreshing to see students dive deep into these dispositions and we can not wait to see them put them into practice when we tackle some project based learning. We are also planning to provide parents with an opportunity to witness some of the learning that has occurred in BPL Builders sessions at the end of the term so watch your inbox for more information.

Premier's Reading Challenge
The NSW Premier's Reading Challenge is well underway for 2021. The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure, and every year we have a large number of students complete the Challenge. Your child received their login details on a sticker attached in Term 1. Lists of the books that are included in the Challenge can be found here. We are looking forward to seeing our students enthusiastically completing the 2021 PRC!

Devices
Students are expected to bring their own device to school every single day as we rely on these to support our learning in the classroom. Devices should be fully charged, in good condition and up to date with any updates. If for some reason your child can not bring their device on a given day, please contact their classroom teacher via email to notify them.
