PETER CHRISTIE: CHRISTIAN/GOSPEL ARTIST OF THE YEAR 2018
Peter Christie is Music Coordinator at Norwest Christian College, Riverstone. Unassuming to meet, Peter is a ‘giant’ of Christian/Gospel music performance and Music Ministry and recently returned to Australia, having won a major, world recognised accolade in the USA.
The Josie Music Awards is an all genre music award show ceremony; it is the largest global independent artist showcase. Lavish red carpet and a sparkling array of cameras and reporters greet invited guests. Thousands of enthusiasts from around the world attend: artists, songwriters, talent agents, record label promoters, producers, engineers, representatives of management companies, music industries and promotion companies and of course families and friends. The Josie’s are held in Tennessee, USA.
Peter was awarded the Josie Music Award for ‘Male Artist of the Year 2018’ in the Christian/Gospel category; a marvellous achievement. “Being awarded the Josie Music Award as Male Artist of the Year in the Christian / Gospel category was a huge honour,” said Peter.
His chronicle of music awards is staggering: The Brumby Award (Tamworth Country Music Festival) for Gospel song of the Year 2016 and 2017; First in Gospel Category Songs Alive Australian Songwriting Competition 2018; six previous International Music Awards, including Male Entertainer (Crimson Awards) and Songwriter of the Year (Diamond Awards), Video Clip and Favourite Band (Gospel Music Fan Fair Awards).
Peter has achieved FIVE USA Top 10 Gospel Hits. Pre-eminent among these are #1 You Alone are Worthy #3 When My Time Comes and #6 My Father’s House ( all Record World Magazine / Cashbox Chart USA).
However, despite his international success, Peter’s heart is in supporting the church here in Australia. He has sung, led worship and preached in a variety of church settings and denominations. Peter began his music ministry in 2009 as a service to rural churches which did not have congregation members with musical capabilities. Travelling initially in NSW, requests for assistance soon came from Queensland, Victoria and the ACT. The sale of CDs funded travel costs and promoted interest in seeking Peter’s musical assistance. Peter’s services to churches are free but the sale of CDs covers costs.
Peter is no stranger to public performance; in his younger self he was a noted Australian gymnast and represented Australia on many occasions.
However, as Peter concludes: “To know that your music is making an impact in the lives of so many people is both humbling and thrilling.”
