Screen time is an inescapable reality of modern life, with young people of every age spending hours upon hours in front of iPads, smartphones, computers and televisions. Research suggests that the amount of time young people spend on handheld devices is only increasing and the bottom line is that screens are here to stay. With this in mind it’s important that parents and educators consider the impact screen time has on learning, not just school learning, but all of life learning. For example, how is screen time impacting the development of discernment, curiosity, social skills, the ability to focus and communication skills? What are the pros and cons of screen time?
At this BPL Community workshop we will together explore these questions and endeavour to discern some principles so that our young people employ screens in such a way that their all of life learning is enhanced.
