Chapel Summary – Week 8, Term 3

Chapel Summary - Week 8, Term 3

Primary Chapel has been looking at the theme of what it means to be saved to live God’s way. This week, we explored some of the doubts that stop us from doing what God has planned for us. We found many of these same doubts echoed in the calling of the prophet Jeremiah who said he was too young, too afraid and that he didn’t know what to say or do (Jeremiah 1). We then saw how God countered each of these doubts with a promise of his own. God promised that He would be with Jeremiah, that He would save him, give him the words to say and the authority to go out to all the nations. With all the Mary Poppins adventures we were reminded of some quotes such as that these aren’t ‘no pie crust promises that are easily made, easily broken’ but that if we trust in God, ‘anything can happen if you let it’ and ‘after all, you can’t lose what you never lost’.

Secondary Chapel finished off our theme looking at the ‘God of All Seasons’ with the season of Winter. We discussed how seasons of winter where everything goes wrong lead us to times of lament. We explored some of those feelings through the lens of Lamentations 3 where the Israelites are devastated at being sent into exile. This left the Israelites with the chance to keep lamenting or for their lament to turn them towards the one who could fix their problem. We were encouraged with the Israelites to recognise the broken world around us and ‘have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, or his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness’ (Lamentations 3:21). Students then had the opportunity in Home Group to discuss how winter seasons can lead us to a deeper trust in the one who can and will fix their winters.
