Chapel Summary – Week 5, Term 4

Chapel Summary - Week 5, Term 4

Primary Chapel explored the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives here and know. Firstly, we played a remembering game where students had to try and remember 15 facts about our guest speaker, Clare Wimble from Cru (you can have a look at the work Cru does supporting our College and upcoming holidays camps for kids here or in the postcard below). This became much simpler when another student was given the answers and could assist when a fact had been forgotten. In the same way, we saw how the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth who will help and guide us to know the truth about Jesus and all that he has done for us (John 16:13). In conclusion, we were left with the important and powerful reminder that we have the Spirit’s guidance and help in all that we do.

In Secondary Chapel, we continued exploring the practical ‘Outworking’s’ of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Clare Wimble looked at examples in our modern culture where we judge and look down upon other, such as ‘mean tweets’ on Jimmy Falon and the memes or words we use about each other. We then compared this to Jesus’ teaching in John 8:2-11 where the Pharisees were quick to cast stones and judge until Jesus pointed out their own hypocrisy in this. We saw that the reason could do this is that in Jesus the woman’s life of sin would be dealt with on the cross, so rather than being condemned she could leave her life of sin. In Home Groups, students reflected on the quote by Daniel Fuscoe that ‘Jesus accepts us as we are. But he loves us enough to not leave us this way' and what it looks like for their lives.
