Chapel Summary – Week 3, Term 4

Chapel Summary - Week 3, Term 4

Primary Chapel explored the question of ‘how do we know what God is like?’. To begin, we played a guessing game of things we knew about Mr. Elton, such as his favourite food and least favourite food. This proved difficult without some help, so we began again but this time having Mr. Elton sharing about the questions beforehand. We discovered that if we all guess what God is like, we could end up with lots of different answers, true or not. Whereas, when we look to God to tell us what He is like, then we can know. We saw how God does this in three ways: Jesus, the Bible and Heaven.

In Secondary Chapel, we continued exploring the practical ‘Outworking’s’ of the Holy Spirit in our lives. In particular, we explored what God has to say about the language we use to show God’s love through us. We began by discussing in Home group ‘why is swearing is often considered bad?’. This led into exploring why, with the same mouth, we ‘praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness’ (James 3:10). We then saw how the problem, when Jesus talks about it, is really to do with the heart and whether the words we use show a deep love for God which overflows into a love for others through our words (Luke 6:45). Home Groups then continued on this discussion about the words we can use to ‘build up’ rather than tear down (Ephesians 4:29).
